REFIBRE TEXTILE FIBER PELLET PLANT

All sector operators know that the textile fiber separated from the recycled tire does not have an outlet for reusing the material. Its current intended use is only almost of the nature of producing electricity through incineration. The transport of waste affects its costs and is therefore the negative value on a business plan in relation to its % of production.

The aim

The plant is able to make a product doseable that appears in the form of fluff after the cleaning process with our “Clean Textile System” Module. The work is carried out on a machine specially designed in terms of the shape of the matrix and pressure rollers to obtain pellets similar to those we generally see in wood, without deteriorating the fibers themselves.

The study

The production of this material was conceived by a team of companies participating in a European LIFE tender called REFIBRE in which our company played the technological role of study and process for the production of pellets. During the engineering and application process of the material, it emerged that this type of filamentary polymeric matrix pellet has increased the mechanical characteristics of two macro products and applications on the market:

Reinforcing fibers for Asphalt:The textile fiber pellets, appropriately dosed in the basic bituminous conglomerate (binder), gives the road pavement greater resistance to fatigue; this allows the average life of the flooring to be significantly extended.
Reinforcing fibers for polymeric products: The textile fiber pellet, combined by extrusion in appropriate proportions with other plastic materials (e.g. polypropylene and similar), gives the compound thus obtained a notable increase in impact resistance, without appreciably modifying the other characteristics mechanical; this makes the compound suitable for the production of crankcases of all types, under-hood components for automotive, plastic pallets for goods, etc.

The capacities of the plant

From the LIFE Project the pilot line was built and is currently in perfect operating conditions from which the production values were taken as it is interconnected with an existing plant. Productivity is approximately 320 Kg/h with a compression ratio of 2.5 times compared to the original material. With this capacity it is possible to install the REFIBRE line on any existing tire recovery system, making an aeraulic switch that allows production without compromising operation with existing equipment.
